FOUR-time world speedway champion Greg Hancock is coming to Glasgow… for one night only!
The American legend of the sport, who has enjoyed one of the most colourful careers of any rider in history, will attend Glasgow Tigers’ match against Ipswich Witches this Wednesday as a special guest.
It will be his first visit to the Peugeot Ashfield Stadium, although given he is sitting out the rest of the 2017 season through injury, it won’t be on a bike.
However fans will have the chance to meet the ‘Grin’ and buy his merchandise as well as taking in a crucial SGB Championship tie, which could act as a decider for who finishes second in the league.
Hancock, 47, already has strong links to Glasgow through sponsorship – and he donned Tigers kevlars at each of the last two British Grand Prix in Cardiff – though he had to withdraw from this year’s event just seconds in due to a shoulder injury.
The Cardiff meeting is usually the only chance British fans get to see Hancock each year – so Wednesday’s fixture is a unique opportunity for Tigers fans.
Hancock said: “I’m really excited and honoured to make a trip to Glasgow for the home match on Wednesday.
“Over these last two years, the good people from Glasgow Allied Tigers, Grant Henderson (wemovesh.it) and the great Gordon Pairman, former Glasgow owner, have backed me during the British GP in Cardiff – which I am totally grateful for.
“I couldn’t have a better group of people with so much enthusiasm behind me, for sure. Gordon and I have talked about my appearance in Glasgow for sometime now and I finally managed to get a free date to come and join you.
“I’m looking forward to catching up with all the fans on the night and I thank you again for your great support. See you all on Wednesday!”
