ALL at Glasgow Tigers were saddened to learn of the passing of Jimmy Beaton – one of the club’s most legendary off-track figures and long-time honorary president.
Jimmy, 91, spent years as a promoter and director of the Tigers, from the club’s days racing at Hampden Park in the early 1970s, through moves to Coatbridge, Blantyre, Workington and finally Shawfield, where his official involvement ended at the close of the 1980s. He was later inducted into the club’s hall of fame.
Jimmy’s three sons, Bobby, Jim and George, all went on to ride for the Tigers – while his grandson Gary also took up the sport for a time and is still a regular face in the Tigers pits.
The club passes on its sincerest condolences to the Beaton family and we hope to follow with a full obituary of Jimmy’s life in speedway in due course.
