NEW Glasgow star Nathan Greaves has admitted “it’s ours to lose” as Great Britain’s under-21s kick off their team world championship hopes on his home track tomorrow.
The 20-year-old will take part in his first meeting since signing for the Tigers in the FIM Team Speedway U21 World Championship semi-final at their Peugeot Ashfield Stadium track.
GB take on Australia, Germany and Czech Republic hoping to book a place in the final in Denmark next month.
It’s a massive meeting for Glasgow and for Greaves – who joined the club this week in a huge double-swoop involving Grand Prix star Craig Cook.
And the Englishman wants to impress his new fans in his first outing on home shale.
He said: “I’m definitely keen to go out and show what I’m capable of.
“I’ll do my best, get some points and just go for it – and hopefully that leads to a good rest of the year for me and Glasgow.
“It’s really good to be a part of a team that wants to be successful and it makes you want to ride better. And when you’ve got good supporters, like I know Glasgow have, that’s a bonus.
“Hopefully we can be in the play-offs come the end of the season.
“I think it works in our favour tomorrow, having the meeting at Glasgow, because everyone that’s racing in our team has been to the track a few times – whereas the others guys might not have been – so it’s probably ours to lose.
“But we won’t take anything for granted.”
None of the Australian, German or Czech riders has raced at Ashfield before – meaning a host of new and exciting talents will be at the track for the first time. Some of the Aussies have travelled specially for the event having never visited Europe.
Tapes-up is at 7pm with tickets available to buy here.
