Tigers kept their play off chances alive with an important win over one of their rivals for a top 4 spot.
Almost importantly they stopped the Hammers from picking up a losing point.
Tigers were without Lewis Kerr and Claus Vissing, while the visitors welcomed back Kyle Newman but were without
Heat 1 had a scrappy start as Ben Hopwood and James Sarjeant were caught creeping at the start, Chris Harris taking the win from Nick Morris, with Sarjeant passing Hopwood just as he fell.
Tigers were twice on a 5-1 in heat 2, Alfie Bowtell coming down in the first running, before Jack Thomas ground to a halt whilst leading the re-run.
Adam Ellis easily won heat 3 but partner Newman looked well off the pace at the back.
Both Tigers shot out the start in heat 4 but Sarjeant couldn’t keep Lawson behind him for more than a couple of laps for a 4-2.
Heat 5 was shared before Tigers took another 4-2 in heat 6 to move 7 ahead.
Ellis made the gate again in heat 7 but he had to fend off Richie Worrall who looked like he had the run on him a couple of times but couldn’t get past.
Ben Morely led heat 8 into the first bend but was passed by both Tigers by the back straight to move the home side 9 up.
Lawson took his first win in heat 9 but the heat was shared. Ellis led heat 10 with both Harris and Barker on his tail but appeared to lose a chain at the start of the second lap and fell, Barker doing well to avoid him.
Lakeside used their tactical in heat 11 and put themselves back in the match with a 5-1, Morris passing Worrall after the latter had inadvertently almost fenced him on the second bend.
Ellis took another win in heat 12 leaving Tigers still 9 up. Worrall led heat 13 but couldn’t keep the faster Morris behind him although he kept him honest while making sure Lawson stayed third.
Tigers then wrapped up the meeting with a heat 14 maximum, Barker passing both Hammers coming out of the second bend.
Just for good measure he won heat 15 also, with Morris cleverly using the inside line on the fourth bend to pass Worrall .
This looked like a tricky match with two former Tigers and Glasgow relying on a guest and R/R but the home side won comfortably, with the difference at reserve, where James Sarjeant had his best score of the season and looked like the rider of 2015. Ben Barker was an able guest, coming on strong after a slow start, whilst the rest of the team kept the scoreboard ticking over.
The visitors relied heavily on their top 3, with little back up from the rest of the team, not helped with Wajtnecht’s absence, although it’s debatable it would’ve made any difference.
Next up is the FIM U21 Qualifier next Saturday, while Glasgow’s next home match isn’t until the end of the month!
