Glasgow Tigers 43 v 47 Workington Comets

Tigers ended 2017 with another home defeat in what was strictly an end of season affair.
Both teams were missing riders and it was notable that the guests in both teams were amongst the higher scorers.

The Comets opened with an easy 5-1, which was swiftly cancelled out in heat 2 with James Sarjeant, riding for his own team, not getting off the line gifting Richard Hall and Ryan MacDonald the maximum.
Richie Worrall won heat 3 but Dan Bewley was at the back, although he kept Mason Campton honest .
Aaron Summers took heat 4 and with MacDonald getting the better of Dale Lamb on the first bend, Glasgow were in the lead.
Barker won heat 5 by a mile before Glasgow extended their lead to 6 with a 5-1 from Lawson and Hall. Like last week it was as good as it got for the home men.
Summers split the Comets in heat 7 after an excellent chase and pass of Campton. He wasn’t far off Ashley Morris at the end.
Workington then drew level with a 5-1 through Proctor and Sarjeant in heat 8, with the home duo nowhere.
Another two drawn heats followed, with Lawson fortunate to win heat 10 after Campton hit the fence on the third bend.
The decisive race proved to be in heat 11 with Campton and Barker racing each other but still able to take a 5-1 to open a 4 point lead.
Campton kept it that way with a heat 12 victory before Barker blasted pass Lawson in heat 13 when it looked like a home 4-2 was on the cards.
Tigers were looking like getting that 4-2 in heat 14 only for Hall to fall on the last lap when third. Mechanical failure seemed to be the reason.
Any chance Glasgow had of getting a draw disappeared with Worrall going through the tapes in heat 15. Lawson did manage to beat Barker though in a entertaining final heat of 2017.

This meeting was like the 2017 season in a nutshell in that they had a good start, dipped alarmingly in the middle and never really recovered.
It’s interesting to note that Glasgow only won two league matches after Nike Lunna’s injury, with a whopping 4 defeats in 6 at home in that time. They hadn’t lost a home match prior to that
Certainly Glasgow will be happy that its finished and the planning for 2018 can start
