  • Paisley born, James made his Glasgow debut in 1990 at the age of 16. He made sporadic appearances in the side in the next two seasons before being a major player in Tigers league wins in 1993 and 94. He further enhanced his reputation with an increased average in 1995 when the first and second divisions merged. With Tigers closing in 1996, he moved south to Wolverhampton where he won his third league title in 4 years. He stayed there until mid 1998 when he was dropped and moved to Berwick. He then rode for arch rivals Edinburgh in 1999 before returning to the Tigers in 2000. Five years later he was off again, this time to Newcastle, then Redcar in 2007.He made another return “home” in 2009 having his best ever Tigers campaign but the team’s bad start to the 2010 season saw him ousted to allow Joe Screen to sign, although James had picked up an injury which was expected to see him miss a number of weeks. He was back sooner than expected and saw the season out at Redcar. He did have his testimonial at Glasgow though at the end of the season. Despite thoughts of retirement he lined up for the Tigers in 2011 and helped the side to another league title. He also partnered Joe Screen to the Premier League Pairs title at Somerset.

He is the second highest scorer in Tigers history and is in the club’s hall of fame.

Was recently married and has two sons.
